Abstract
Purpose
To collate and assess the in昀氀uenza vaccination doses for
adults aged 50 years or older in California for the 20212022 and 2022-2023 seasons and assess the relationship
between the release of the coronavirus disease 2019
(COVID-19) bivalent booster and in昀氀uenza vaccination
doses.
Methods
This study analyzed the in昀氀uenza and COVID-19 bivalent
vaccination doses for the 2021-2022 and 2022-2023
in昀氀uenza seasons for adults aged 50 years or older using
data from the California Department of Public Health
(CDPH). The relationship between the release of the
COVID-19 bivalent booster and in昀氀uenza vaccination
doses among patients in California aged 50 years or older
was examined.
Results
More vaccine doses in this age group received the
COVID-19 vaccine in 2021-2022 than in 2022-2023
(14,644,293 and 6,389,073, respectively). The number
of recipients of in昀氀uenza vaccines was similar in the 2
years (5,973,942 and 6,237,591, respectively). Analysis of
the di昀昀erences in COVID-19 bivalent booster vaccination
doses and in昀氀uenza vaccination doses over the 2 in昀氀uenza
seasons showed a signi昀椀cant correlation (P < 0.05, t test)
between the increase in in昀氀uenza vaccination doses and
Introduction
decrease in COVID-19 bivalent booster vaccination doses
with increasing age.
Conclusion
The release of the COVID-19 bivalent vaccine a昀昀ected
in昀氀uenza vaccination doses in Californians 50 years of
age or older. External factors that could have a昀昀ected
these results include the number of people who had and
recovered from COVID-19, workplace requirements, social
media, and personal preferences.
