Davis Assistant Chief of Specialty
Pharmacy, David Mitchell, was
honored with the Distinguished
Service Award, competing against
esteemed leaders nationwide who
contribute extensively to the specialty
pharmacy community through
leadership, advocacy, community
involvement, and innovation. The
award is presented to an individual
who has provided outstanding

Dr. Robert L. Day
• Pharmacy lost a dedicated advocate
when Robert L. Day, PharmD, died
on October 4 at the age of 90. A 2010
inductee into CPhA’s Hall of Fame,
Day was “an icon for our school,
for UCSF, and for the pharmacy
profession as a whole,” said Dean
Kathy Giacomini, PhD, BSPharm.
“He was innovative in his thinking
– and had the will and persistence
to drive positive change forward. He
leaves behind an unforgettable legacy
for all of us to follow.” In the 1970s,
Day spearheaded the revival of the
American Pharmacists Association
